Wike-Led PDP Faction Inaugurates New Board of Trustees
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT), marking what it described as a pivotal moment in the party’s evolution.
The inauguration, held Friday in Abuja, was presided over by factional Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, who criticized the previous BoT led by Senator Adolphus Wabara.
Mohammed accused the former leadership of losing its moral compass and failing to uphold the principles that once defined the PDP.
“We are not just inaugurating a new Board of Trustees,” Mohammed said. “We are renewing our commitment to the ideals of justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law, values that made the PDP a national movement and a beacon of democracy.”
Mohammed cited internal strife, leadership disputes, and a departure from foundational principles as reasons for the shake-up. He referenced Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter over alleged anti-party activities, calling it a necessary step to restore credibility. He also criticized the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, for prioritizing personal loyalty over constitutional integrity.
The newly constituted BoT is chaired by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, with Hon. Isah Dansidi appointed as Secretary. They replace Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, respectively. The appointments were ratified in a communique issued after the inauguration, which emphasized the need for neutrality and moral authority in party leadership.
“The Board noted that the immediate past BoT Chairman and Secretary, having publicly taken sides in the ongoing intra-party crisis, can no longer serve in their previous roles,” the communique stated. “To preserve the integrity of the BoT, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Hon. Isah Dansidi were unanimously elected as replacements.”
The communique, signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, expressed gratitude to the outgoing officers for their service and wished them well. It also commended party stakeholders for their resilience and urged members to uphold unity, mutual respect, and democratic values.
Reaffirming its commitment to internal reform, the BoT pledged to strengthen transparency, inclusiveness, and institutional respect within the party. It concluded by emphasizing adherence to the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the PDP’s own constitution as essential to preserving the party’s role as a custodian of democratic ideals.
