Why Tope Alabi refused to perform at Liz Anjorin’s birthday party

Gospel singer Tope Alabi allegedly declined to perform at Nigerian actress Liz Anjorin’s surprise birthday party, and the reasons behind her decision have now been revealed. According to filmmaker and author Oreofe Williams, PhD, who was involved in the matter, Alabi and her team felt deceived and manipulated into performing without knowing the celebrant’s identity.
A filmmaker contacted Williams to book Alabi for a surprise performance, without revealing the celebrant’s name. Williams assumed it was a personal gesture and contacted Alabi’s team, who agreed to perform after a 70% discount was negotiated. However, upon arrival at the venue, Alabi discovered the celebrant was Anjorin and refused to perform, citing personal reasons.
Anjorin responded by releasing a video and payment receipt, accusing Alabi of being unprofessional. However, Williams clarified that the actual amount paid was N2.5m, not N3.5m as reported, and that Alabi’s team had refunded the money. Williams emphasized the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability in business relationships, questioning why Anjorin’s fans would keep her identity hidden from Alabi.
