Vote buying: APGA agent arrested in Anambra
In a crackdown on electoral malpractice, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested three individuals suspected of vote-buying during Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
The arrests were conducted simultaneously across multiple local government areas as voting was underway on November 8, 2025.
The suspects have been identified as Emeka Ilokasia, arrested at Ward 2 in Njikoka LGA; Nwachukwu Loretta, apprehended at Ward 2 (008) in Awkuzu, Oyi LGA; and Emuka Chukwudi, taken into custody in Umunachi village, Dunukofia LGA.
A statement by Dele Oyewale, Head, Media & Publicity of the anti-graft agency confirmed that the individuals were arrested while actively participating in the electoral process. The EFCC stated that its operatives monitored the polls based on credible intelligence regarding financial inducement of voters.
“The suspects are currently in our custody and are being questioned,” an EFCC official said. “They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
This operation signals a continued effort by law enforcement agencies to preserve the integrity of the electoral process and deter the trading of votes for cash, a practice that has marred previous elections in the country.
