VeryDarkMan (VDM), a social activist and critic, has announced plans to launch a major gadget hub in Eastern Nigeria, called the Eastern Gadget Hub, to address the issue of overpriced gadgets in Nigeria.

He criticized Lagos phone dealers for selling iPhones at highly inflated prices. Specifically, he pointed out that the iPhone 11 costs about ₦210,000 in China but is sold for nearly double in Nigeria.

VDM’s new gadget warehouse aims to allow traders in Eastern Nigeria to source products locally instead of having to travel to Lagos, potentially reducing costs for consumers.

In the ongoing controversy around the iPhone 17 in Lagos, VeryDarkMan has exposed what he claims is overpricing and deception in the market.

He accused a businessman named Blord of selling refurbished iPhone XR phones disguised as the new iPhone 17 Pro at inflated prices, with Blord reportedly charging ₦400,000 per unit while the real cost of such phones including shipping from China is about ₦280,000.

VDM also called out the general practice of excessive price markups by some dealers in Lagos, urging for fairer pricing to benefit consumers.

This dispute has sparked widespread discussion in Nigeria, with many supporting VDM’s stance against exploitation through artificially high gadget prices.

The launch of the Eastern Gadget Hub by VeryDarkMan is viewed as a move toward more affordable and accessible genuine gadgets for Nigerians, challenging monopolized overpricing that has been prevalent in Lagos’s market.
