Varsity student hangs self at RCCG Redemption Camp
Tragedy struck as Olaoluwa Subomi Lawson, a 400-level Computer Science student of Babcock University, reportedly took his own life at his father’s residence in Redemption Camp City.
The heartbreaking incident was said to have been reported on Tuesday by a family member living in Festac Town, Lagos.
According to sources, the family was informed by the deceased’s mother, Olufunke Lawson, who resides in the United Kingdom.
She shared that her son had died by hanging in his room.
Investigations revealed that Lawson had been suspended for one year by the university over examination malpractice, while his peers are expected to graduate on July 27, 2025.
Dr. Joshua Suleiman, Babcock University’s Director of Communication and Marketing, confirmed the incident.
He explained that Lawson had faced a disciplinary panel, was found guilty, and received a suspension—though he had not yet collected the official suspension letter. It is believed he may have become aware of the decision prior to the tragedy.
“We don’t know what happened thereafter. We only heard that the student took his life,” Suleiman noted.
