Super Falcons Brace For Morocco Showdown In WAFCON Final On Saturday
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to face Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), rekindling the fierce rivalry that played out in the previous edition of the tournament.
The Falcons earned their spot in the final after a dramatic 2-1 victory over South Africa. Rasheedat Ajibade put Nigeria ahead with a coolly taken penalty just before half-time.
South Africa responded in the 60th minute as Linda Motlhalo converted from the spot to restore parity.
With the match edging toward extra time, defender Michelle Alozie launched a speculative long ball into the South African box from midfield.
In a surreal twist, both Nigeria’s attackers and South Africa’s goalkeeper Andile Dlamini missed the ball entirely, allowing it to drift into the back of the net in stoppage time, sealing Nigeria’s win and sending South African hopes crashing.
