SSS Arrests X User Calling for Coup in Nigeria
The State Security Service (SSS) has reportedly apprehended a social media user, Innocent Chukwuma, following a controversial post on X (formerly Twitter) in which he allegedly called for a coup in Nigeria.
According to an agency source, SSS operatives tracked Chukwuma to Oyigbo, Port Harcourt in Rivers State, where he was taken into custody. The post in question reportedly read: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
He allegedly continued, urging Nigerians to support the military, claiming it was the only institution capable of saving the country.
The source added that Chukwuma is cooperating with investigators. However, the SSS has not officially confirmed the arrest, as the agency no longer engages directly with the media and currently lacks an official spokesperson.
Chukwuma’s arrest comes amid heightened concerns over an alleged coup plot involving senior military officers.
Intelligence reports suggest that around 20 officers have been detained in connection with the plot, with additional reports pointing to civilian collaborators.
Calls for a military takeover have resurfaced since the #EndBadGovernance protests, which lasted ten days and saw some demonstrators waving Russian flags. The protests resulted in at least 22 deaths and numerous arrests.
