Governors of Nigeria’s South-West states are currently gathered in Ibadan, Oyo State, for a crucial emergency security meeting.
The meeting was convened to formulate a decisive regional response to the escalating threat of banditry and the influx of criminal elements from other parts of the country.
The meeting, which is being held behind closed doors, has in physical attendance Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti). The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, is being represented by his deputy.
According to a government source familiar with the agenda, the governors are deliberating on a multi-pronged strategy. The discussions are focused on addressing immediate security challenges, fast-tracking infrastructural development, and strengthening regional integration under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).
A key item on the agenda is a comprehensive review of the region’s collaborative security initiatives, particularly the operations of the Amotekun security corps.
