While INEC continues the recall process with plans to verify the signatures at polling units, Giwa insists that the forgery allegations must be addressed first.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has filed a formal petition with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, alleging forgery in the recall petition against her.

The petition challenges the validity of over 250,000 signatures submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by her constituents seeking her recall. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team, led by Victor Giwa, claims the signatures were falsified and blames members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State for orchestrating the act.

Giwa emphasized that forgery is a criminal offense requiring police investigation, not just INEC verification. He stated, “INEC’s role is limited to verifying if signatures match real owners, but allegations of fraud demand police intervention.”

While INEC continues its verification process at polling units, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team insists that the forgery claims must be addressed first. The case has been taken to court to ensure proper legal scrutiny.

Meanwhile, INEC recently criticized the recall petition for incomplete contact details of its representatives but later confirmed receiving the required information. As the controversy unfolds, attention remains on INEC, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary to determine the next steps in this high-profile recall process.
