Senate explains viral video of ‘Senator’ in office romance

A viral video showing a man reported by some news reports to be a Nigerian senator kissing a woman inside what appears to be an office has stirred controversy online, with the Senate now debunking the claims insisting that the man is neither a senator nor the office space that of the National Assembly.

The Nigerian Senate has strongly denied the allegation of the senator in the video being the Senator reported to be in the video.

The video, which began trending on Tuesday, quickly drew widespread attention and outrage, with some users claiming the setting was inside the National Assembly complex in Abuja. But in a swift response, the Senate, through its spokesperson and Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, dismissed the claims as baseless—Sahara Reporters, reported.

According to Sahara Reporters, Senator Adaramodu clarified that the man in the video is not a current member of the Nigerian Senate. He also debunked the suggestion that the video was filmed in the Senate complex, stating that the architecture seen in the clip does not match that of any Senate office.

“That’s not the picture of any senator who is presently serving in the Nigerian Senate,” he said. “That video has been online for the past four to five years. I saw it even before I became a senator. Even when I was in the House of Representatives, the video had already been circulating.”

He emphasized that no office within the National Assembly matches the design seen in the footage. “There is no office architectural configuration like that in the Senate. None. I can open up to 10 offices for you to compare. That place is not in the Senate,” he stressed.

The Senate’s denial has, however, not and confirmation from Sahara Reporters that the video is indeed old and has been recycled multiple times online, some Nigerians remain skeptical. Social media platforms have continued to buzz with reactions, with many dragging the Senate and demanding more accountability from public officeholders.
