Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, has responded to the controversy involving the Governor’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Kunle Fagbemi, who was accused of harassing journalists during an event at Lagos House, Ikeja.
Akosile stated that the incident is being addressed amicably and stressed that the administration does not condone any form of harassment.
The incident occurred during an empowerment program for 1,000 women, where the CSO allegedly confronted the governor’s press crew, accusing them of being disruptive and unprofessional. Despite no physical altercation, journalists reported verbal abuse and expressed concerns about intimidation at government events.
Akosile assured that security personnel have their roles to protect the governor and his family, while journalists also have their responsibilities, with no hindrance intended between the two.
He emphasized that this is a one-off incident, not characteristic of the administration, and that an apology has been made to the press corps.
The Governor’s CSO provided his side, indicating a misunderstanding was at the heart of the matter, and Akosile promises a friendly resolution.
