Rivers Assembly To Probe Ibas, Calls For Commissioner-Nominees

The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to investigate the state’s finances during the six-month administration of Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator.

This resolution was passed during the Assembly’s first plenary session on Thursday. The Assembly also requested that Governor Siminalayi Fubara submit the list of commissioner nominees for screening.

President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule on September 17, restoring all democratic structures in the state.

Additionally, Jake Epelle, CEO of TAF Africa, urged Ibok-Ete Ibas to provide a full accounting of funds spent during his tenure as administrator under the emergency rule.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Epelle emphasized that past experience showed some politicians involved in the crisis leading to the emergency rule were not trustworthy. He stressed that the people of Rivers have suffered enough and that those who managed state resources during the emergency must now offer clear explanations.

President Tinubu ended the six-month emergency rule on Wednesday, which had been imposed after he suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.
