Nigerian filmmaker Stanley Ontop was arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) in Asaba, Delta State, on December 9, 2025, following a petition from a female complainant.

Friends, including blogger Miss Natural, allege that actress Queeneth Hilbert instigated the arrest after calling him gay online, which led to a heated exchange and further escalated their feud.

They claim she used the police to harass him instead of pursuing a defamation case in court.

The dispute reportedly grew out of ongoing online clashes between Hilbert and Ontop, where both sides traded personal insults in the middle of wider Nollywood drama.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed Ontop’s arrest and detention but did not disclose the full details of the petition, only stating that the matter is under investigation and he remains in custody as of December 10, 2025.

As of the latest reports, Hilbert has not publicly issued a detailed statement addressing the detention.

Reactions from the public and on social media are sharply divided, with some commenters supporting Hilbert and applauding the detention, while others criticize the move and demand that any grievances be addressed in court instead of through police custody.

The incident has intensified online debates about the use of law enforcement in personal and celebrity conflicts, especially when tied to allegations about sexuality.
