President Tinubu Concludes Strategic Visit to Brazil, Departs for Abuja
President Bola Tinubu departed Brasília in the early hours of Wednesday, wrapping up a high-level diplomatic visit focused on strengthening Nigeria-Brazil relations.
His presidential aircraft took off from the Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at approximately 12:57 a.m. local time.
A delegation of Brazilian officials, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s envoy to Nigeria, were present to see him off. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, joined other dignitaries at the departure ceremony, which featured a formal guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.
President Tinubu had arrived in Brazil on Monday, August 25, to a reception marked by full military honours. During his stay, he held closed-door meetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other senior officials.
The visit culminated in the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding spanning aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture.
In addition, Tinubu met with the Director-General of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission and the Board of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, commending Nigeria’s capital market performance as a reflection of growing investor trust in his administration’s economic reforms.
Beyond official engagements, the president participated in discussions aimed at expanding collaboration in trade, education, and innovation.
He also met with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Brazil, urging them to contribute actively to national development efforts.
