The Nigerian police, specifically the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), have denied allegations that singer Rema ordered the arrest of interior designer Amaka Obasi in connection with a ₦386 million contract dispute.
The police clarified that their actions were based on a formal petition regarding an alleged breach of contract involving a renovation project.
According to the police, an agreement was signed between Rema and Amaka Obasi’s company, Ardeb Lifestyle, for a contract valued at ₦386 million, with ₦287 million already paid upfront.
However, the project was found incomplete, some furniture missing, and part of the money was transferred to an unregistered account.
The police emphasized that their investigation is a legal matter and not a personal vendetta or an arrest ordered by Rema.
Reports had surfaced accusing Rema of using police officers to intimidate and detain Amaka Obasi after she demanded payment for various renovation and studio projects.
However, FCID spokesperson Aminat Mayegun stated that police acted strictly according to the law on the basis of the petition submitted and advised both parties to engage an independent valuer.
The interior designer had reportedly declined to provide a valuer’s report or legal representation until her apprehension. Rema has not publicly commented on the matter.
