PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket To South, Confirms Damagum as Chairman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC), at its 102nd meeting held on Monday, unanimously resolved to zone the party’s 2027presidential ticket to the south.
This decision aligns with the recommendations submitted by the party’s National Zoning Committee, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
The committee’s report was formally presented and ratified during the meeting.
Additionally, the NEC confirmed Ambassador Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
His confirmation was marked by a brief swearing-in ceremony conducted by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
While addressing journalists at the end of the meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the NEC opted to uphold the existing zoning arrangement between the North and South.
Given that the National Chairman hails from the North and will be formally elected during the party’s National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, the presidential ticket was accordingly zoned to the South.
In his acceptance remarks, Ambassador Damagum expressed gratitude to the NWC for their support, which he said made his role more manageable.
He also thanked NEC members for recognizing his contributions to repositioning the party, which ultimately led to his confirmation.
