PDP Falls in Enugu as Governor Mbah, Aides Join APC

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another setback as Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and his aides on Tuesday formally dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made this announcement during a televised address on Tuesday.

In his statement, Mbah said, “After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways with the Peoples Democratic Party and embrace the All Progressives Congress.”

He explained that his move was motivated by a desire to transform Enugu and revamp the state’s political landscape.

“Today, I announce a departure from the past and share a decision that will influence our future. This is about our values, political organization, and securing the future of our people and our vision.”

“Leadership often calls for tough choices in pursuit of greater principles and objectives. There comes a time when one must make a courageous decision that shapes their destiny.”

Before Governor Mbah’s defection, his entire cabinet had already joined the ruling party on Monday.

The governor’s Senior Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, confirmed the mass defection in a video posted on social media on Monday. The video showed several government officials pledging their support to the APC, praising President Bola Tinubu, and committing to the new party.

“Enugu State Cabinet Members join the APC wholeheartedly alongside Governor PN Mbah,” Nwomeh stated.

In the video, the officials, including commissioners and senior aides, were heard saying, “We are now in APC; tomorrow is here; it is APC all the way; it is Jagaban all the way; from top to bottom.”

This collective defection signifies a major political realignment in Enugu State, which has been under PDP control since 1999.
