Over 20,000 Rally as Hilda Baci Begins Historic Jollof Rice Record Attempt in Lagos
Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially kicked off her ambitious attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for cooking the largest pot of jollof rice, drawing an overwhelming crowd of more than 20,000 supporters to Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
Originally planned for Muri Okunola Park, the event was relocated to accommodate the massive turnout. The record-breaking cook, who rose to global fame in 2023 for the longest cooking marathon, is now aiming to prepare 250 bags of rice in a custom-built pot measuring six metres wide.
Before the cooking began, Hilda shared a heartfelt moment with her mother, praying for strength and endurance, a gesture that deeply moved spectators and reinforced the emotional weight of the challenge.
In a playful social media update, she wrote: “Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making.”
The event, dubbed the World Jollof Festival, is being livestreamed across major platforms and features not just the record attempt, but also food exhibitions, cultural showcases, and live entertainment.
With Guinness World Records cheering her on and fans rallying in droves, Hilda Baci’s latest culinary feat is shaping up to be a landmark celebration of Nigerian culture, resilience, and pride.
