Ohanaeze Ndigbo President Demands Immediate Release Of IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, Senator John Azuta Mbata, has urgently called on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
This plea comes amid reports acknowledging Kanu’s ongoing health issues, including hypertension and hypertensive heart disease for the past five years.
Mbata also urged the Federal Government to ensure that Kanu receives immediate medical treatment. In a widely shared video, he expressed his belief that the government gains no significant benefit from keeping the IPOB leader in detention.
He encouraged the government to pursue a political resolution to the matter and emphasized the importance of safeguarding Kanu’s welfare and safety.
“This is Senator John Azuta Mbata, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. I call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to swiftly release Nnamdi Kanu, as there is no serious advantage in continuing his detention.
It is crucial for the government to guarantee his safety and allow him prompt access to medical care. The government must adopt a political approach to resolve this situation,” he stated.
Mbata also appealed to the Ndigbo people to urgently obtain their Voter Registration Cards.
