NTA Leadership Shake-Up Reversed as Tinubu Orders Return of DG
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the reinstatement of Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Ayo Adewuyi as the Executive Director of News.
On August 20, 2025, Tinubu had appointed Rotimi Pedro and Stella Din to replace Dembos and Adewuyi, respectively. However, in a statement on Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced that these new appointments have been revoked.
Onanuga explained that Dembos was recalled after temporarily stepping down due to management changes within the agency. Originally appointed DG by Tinubu in October 2023, Dembos will now resume and complete his three-year tenure.
Similarly, Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, was also recalled to continue his role as Executive Director of News until the end of his tenure in 2027.
The statement further clarified that the President’s directive has effectively overturned the previous appointments of the director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.
