“No Need for Biafra Agitation Again,” Says Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stated that the agitation for a separate Biafra state is no longer necessary, arguing that the South-East has been fully integrated into Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umahi made the remarks during an inspection tour of federal projects in the region.

He asserted that feelings of marginalisation, which once fuelled separatist sentiments, have significantly reduced due to increased federal investment in infrastructure.

“There will be no need for Biafra again,” Umahi said. “In past administrations, our people felt very much marginalised, and that was why some people were agitating for Biafra. But I can say today that we are well integrated into the mainstream of the nation, Nigeria.”

The minister commended the Tinubu administration for its inclusive approach. “We are comfortable with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are very happy with the integration,” he added.

Umahi highlighted several long-stalled projects in the region that have now been revived, noting, “For more than 15 years, it has been one government coming to do something and then leaving.”

He cited one major road project, executed by RCC with MTN funding, which is expected to be completed by February at a cost of ₦202 billion.

Umahi maintained that sustained infrastructure development is crucial to national unity and the long-term stability of the South-East.
