Nigeria Begins Recruitment of 50,000 Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have announced the commencement of a nationwide recruitment drive for 50,000 new constables, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval and directive to bolster national security.

In a statement on Thursday by the Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, the recruitment is part of a broader effort to strengthen community policing, enhance internal security, and expand police manpower.

The move aligns with the security emergency declared by President Tinubu on November 26, 2025, which called for increased recruitment across security agencies to address rising insecurity.

The recruitment portal will open for applications from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and meet specific educational and age requirements.

For the General Duty cadre, candidates must possess at least five credits – including English and Mathematics – in no more than two sittings in SSCE/NECO or equivalent qualifications.

They must be between 18 and 25 years old and meet minimum height requirements of 1.67 meters for men and 1.64 meters for women.

Applicants for the Specialists cadre must have at least four credits, including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings, along with relevant trade test certifications and a minimum of three years of experience. The age limit for specialists is 18 to 28 years.
