The Federal Government of Nigeria has called off the Independence Day parade scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, which was to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The cancellation announcement was made in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

While no specific reason was provided for the cancellation, the government emphasized that this does not diminish the importance of the milestone celebration. All other programs planned for the Independence Anniversary will still go ahead as scheduled.

The government expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a stronger nation.

A public holiday has been declared for October 1, 2025, to mark the occasion, with the celebration themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”.
