The Neymar family has secured the global brand rights of the legendary Brazilian footballer Pelé in a landmark deal reportedly worth $18 million.

The acquisition was made through NR Sports, a company owned by Neymar Jr.‘s father, Neymar Santos Sr. The official announcement was held at the Pelé Museum in Santos, Brazil, a city closely associated with Pelé’s legacy.

Neymar Sr. expressed pride in reaching this milestone and emphasized their goal to enhance and modernize the identity of Pelé’s brand, bringing it into contemporary relevance.

Under this deal, NR Sports now controls Pelé’s name, image, historical archives, and all commercial opportunities related to one of football’s most iconic figures.

The acquisition marks what NR Sports described as a “repatriation” of one of the greatest symbols in global sports history, aimed at preserving, expanding, and enriching the legacy of Pelé, who won three FIFA World Cups with Brazil (1958, 1962, and 1970) and passed away in December 2022.

Pelé’s daughter Flavia attended the ceremony and expressed her emotion and honor at the transfer, highlighting the priceless nature of the brand as a symbol of soul, humanity, and love.

The deal reportedly follows over a decade of management of the brand by the previous US-based rights holder, Sport 10.

The Neymar family’s plan for the brand involves more active and global management, including new licenses, official products, international collaborations, and multimedia projects designed to honor and expand the memory and influence of the King of Football worldwide.

This strategic move symbolizes a significant step in Brazilian football heritage being preserved and propelled forward by another generation of football royalty.
