National assembly extends recess by one week
The clerk of the national assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, has announced that both chambers of the legislature have extended their resumption date by one week.
Senators and house of representative members commenced their latest recess on March 27 and were billed to return to legislative business on April 29.
In a statement on Monday, Ogunlana said plenary in both chambers will now resume on May 6.
The clerk said the earlier resumption date has been shelved to allow lawmakers participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend to constituency matters.
“I am directed to inform distinguished senators, honourable members, and the general public that the two houses of the national assembly have extended the date for the resumption of plenary sessions from Tuesday, 29th April 2025, to Tuesday, 6th May 2025,” the statement reads.
“This extension allows distinguished senators and honourable members to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend to other engagements in their constituencies.
“Distinguished senators, honourable members, and the general public are invited to take note of the new resumption date.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.”
