Natasha Briefly Detained At Abuja Airport Over Watch List
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was briefly held by immigration officers at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
Sources close to the senator revealed she was traveling with her husband to attend her stepson’s graduation ceremony when she was unexpectedly stopped at the departure terminal.
Immigration officials allegedly cited her placement on a watch list, reportedly at the request of the National Assembly’s leadership.
The incident has fueled speculation of targeted harassment, especially in light of her recent suspension from the Senate and her public accusations of sexual misconduct against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, allegations he strongly denies.
Tensions have continued to mount following criminal defamation charges filed by the Federal Government and her vocal opposition to the Senate’s leadership.
Her supporters view Thursday’s airport encounter as part of a broader campaign of intimidation against her.
Eyewitnesses reported that the senator, visibly shaken, made multiple urgent calls to top immigration and government officials. After nearly an hour, she was eventually permitted to board her British Airways flight.
