Lionel Messi made a deeply emotional and heartfelt return to Camp Nou on November 9, 2025, marking his first visit to the stadium since leaving FC Barcelona in 2021.

He shared on social media that the stadium is a place he misses “with all my soul,” describing it as where he was “immensely happy” and where the fans made him feel like “the happiest person in the world.” Messi expressed his hope to return one day, not just to say goodbye as a player, a farewell moment he never had due to the financial difficulties that forced his departure in 2021.

The visit coincided with the reopening of the renovated Camp Nou, which is expected to fully reopen in 2026.

Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta has also spoken about wanting to honor Messi with a full-house tribute at the stadium reopening, reflecting the club’s enduring admiration and connection to the football legend.

Messi’s emotional visit reflects his deep and lasting bond with Barcelona and its fans, despite his European club career ending after stints with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami in the USA.
