Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ogun Declare Wednesday Holiday For Iseese Day
Out of the six states in Nigeria’s Southwest region, four, Lagos, Oyo, Osun, and Ogun, have officially declared tomorrow a work-free day for public servants in honor of Isese Day, an annual celebration of Yoruba culture, religion, and traditions. Ekiti and Ondo States have yet to adopt the observance.
In Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the holiday to allow traditional worshippers and the general public to fully engage in the festivities that promote and preserve indigenous heritage.
The Ogun State Government, through a statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced the holiday as part of efforts to recognize the significance of Yoruba traditions in shaping the state’s identity. Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized that the celebration strengthens community bonds and encourages broader societal appreciation of cultural values.
Similarly, Oyo State declared a work-free day via a circular issued by Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, Secretary to the State Government. Governor Seyi Makinde endorsed the observance to honor the traditional religious practices of the Yoruba people.
In Osun State, a statement from the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdul Rasheed Aderibigbe, confirmed the holiday and conveyed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s warm wishes to traditional worshippers, hoping for a joyful and meaningful Isese Festival.
