Lagos Alerts NAPTIP Over Speed Darlington’s Alleged Rape of Minor in Hotel
The Lagos State government has disclosed that it has officially informed the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) following serious allegations against singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington Akpi, over the alleged rape of a minor in a hotel.
This action follows the circulation of a viral video in which Darlington seemingly admitted to the crime during an Instagram Live session. The footage appears to show the musician confessing to engaging in sexual relations with an underage girl, triggering widespread outrage.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the development in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle
While condemning the alleged crime, the DSVA clarified that its jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State and noted that the entertainer did not specify where the incident occurred.
“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) is aware of the disturbing video currently circulating online, in which a popular entertainer allegedly admits to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor,” the statement read.
“While the individual in question did not specify the location of the incident during the Instagram Live session, we must clarify that the DSVA’s jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State.”
The agency further revealed that it had escalated the matter to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The statement reiterated the Lagos State government’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual and gender-based violence, urging anyone with useful information to come forward.
“We appreciate the vigilance of citizens who brought this to our attention and urge the public to continue reporting such cases through the appropriate legal channels,” the agency added.
