Kwankwaso Gives Condition For Joining APC
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that he would only rejoin the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if his Kwankwasiyya Movement is fully accommodated within the party.
Kwankwaso expressed willingness to return to the APC, but emphasised that it must be based on clear agreements ensuring recognition and inclusion of his political movement, the Kwankwasiyya.
During a recent meeting with NNPP stakeholders in Kano, he stressed the importance of his movement and reiterated his commitment to his supporters, refusing to abandon them for any position. Kwankwaso highlighted his critical role in the APC’s formation, noting that he and his allies sacrificed much to build the party but were marginalized during its eight years in power under President Muhammadu Buhari.
He questioned what role he would be offered if he were to rejoin, saying, “We are the founders and leaders of the APC. We faced threats from various agencies when challenging the federal government, yet upon APC’s rise to power, we received no recognition or reward.”
Kwankwaso added that his group was similarly sidelined by the PDP upon their return, lacking even a zonal chairman position, which in turn strengthened his movement’s political independence and value.
He affirmed that while they are content in the NNPP for now, they remain open to genuine partnerships that respect their movement, saying, “If anyone wants to work with us sincerely and will not abandon us like before, we are ready. Even if the PDP admits past mistakes, let promises be made publicly.”
As a former defense minister and two-time presidential candidate, Kwankwaso underscored that his political movement has become a significant and independent force in Nigerian politics.
