French streamer Raphaël Graven, known online as Jean Pormanove, passed away in his sleep during a 10-day livestream marathon at the age of 46. He was found deceased in a rented apartment in Contes, near Nice, France.

His final moments were captured on the livestream, which has since been removed. Graven was known for participating in extreme online challenges and had a history of being subjected to humiliation and mistreatment during live streams, often involving physical abuse by other streamers.

The livestream marathon involved sleep deprivation, constant harassment, and physical mistreatment, including being woken abruptly, splashed with water, and subjected to acts described as “mock strangulation.” Video clips showing these abuses circulated online, sparking widespread outrage.

Fellow streamers and platform representatives have expressed sorrow, with notable figures like rapper Drake and streamer Adin Ross pledging to cover funeral costs for Graven.

The French government has condemned the violence, with Minister Clara Chappaz calling it an “absolute horror” and emphasizing the responsibility of online platforms to prevent harmful content. A judicial investigation has been launched by the prosecutor’s office in Nice, with an autopsy ordered. Early indications suggest there is “nothing suspicious” about the death.

The streaming platform Kick, where Graven was active, is reviewing the incident and reexamining its community guidelines.
