JAMB set to review 2025 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has begun an accelerated review of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) process in response to a surge of complaints from candidates nationwide.

After releasing the 2025 UTME results last Friday, JAMB acknowledged an unusually high number of concerns regarding discrepancies in the scores.

In a statement on Monday, the examination body announced that it is expediting its annual system review, which typically takes place months after the exam. This comprehensive assessment covers three critical stages: registration, examination, and result processing.

JAMB emphasized that during the exam phase, every candidate is given the opportunity to take the test, and in cases of technical difficulties, affected candidates are promptly rescheduled to ensure fairness.

To address the current concerns, JAMB said it is engaging experts, including members from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, chief external examiners who are heads of tertiary institutions, and the Educational Association and Research Network in Africa.

The board stated that if any glitches are identified, appropriate remedial measures will be implemented promptly.

The development comes amid widespread dissatisfaction among candidates and their families, many of whom have taken to social media to express concerns over the results and demand a review.

Some candidates have rejected their results, insisting they do not reflect their actual performance.

A group of candidates, numbering over 8,000, have reportedly submitted complaints regarding technical glitches experienced during the examination.

Fabian Benjamin, JAMB spokesperson, said the results reflected the performance of the candidates.

The 2025 UTME results indicated that more than 78 per cent of candidates scored less than 200 points out of the 400 maximum obtainable points.

This has raised concerns about the overall performance and the integrity of the examination process.

As the review progresses, JAMB has urged the public to remain patient.

It assured that any identified issues will be addressed in line with its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
