Israel vows forceful response to Iran’s alleged ceasefire breach

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said on Tuesday that the Israeli military has been ordered to launch strong retaliatory strikes against Iranian targets, following what Israel described as a violation of a ceasefire agreement by Tehran.

“In response to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire, I have instructed the army to strike forcefully at regime targets in the heart of Tehran,” Gallant said in a statement, shortly after the Israeli military reported detecting incoming Iranian missiles.

The statement followed a 24-hour ceasefire framework announced by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier in the day. The phased truce was set to begin around 0400 GMT on Tuesday, with Israel confirming its agreement. Iran, however, has not publicly accepted the ceasefire terms.

Despite the announced ceasefire, Israeli military officials maintained a cautious stance. “The Chief of Staff has instructed the entire army to remain on high alert and prepared for a powerful response to any ceasefire violation,” said military spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin in a televised briefing.

He added that current civil defence instructions remain unchanged. “I want to stress that the public must continue to follow Home Front Command directives. The danger persists,” Defrin said.

Earlier on Tuesday, air raid sirens were reported in northern Israel amid warnings of incoming Iranian missile fire. Later in the day, the military announced that residents in the affected areas could exit shelters as the immediate threat had passed.
