Ibas gives six-month deadline for Rivers assembly complex completion

 The sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has set a six-month deadline for the completion of the House of Assembly complex.

During his inspection of the project on Saturday,  Ibas encouraged Monier Construction Company (MCC) Limited to expedite the work to ensure timely completion.

He emphasised that restoring full legislative activities in the state is crucial to his mandate. Ibas noted that the state government has provided the necessary funding and urged the contractor to stick to the agreed schedule and timelines.

He said, “I have been at the executive arm of the state governance structure and one of the pillars that is missing, for now, is the legislature. And for them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from,” he said.

“And perhaps, I am here to be sure that work is going on as expected, so that by the end of the six months, this place will be ready for those who need to use it. I think basically that is what it is.

“They (contractor) have a schedule and they have timelines that I believe they will like to adhere to. I think the state has done its own bit by providing the necessary funds, I was brief. So the onus is on them to make sure that they keep to the terms.”

The new assembly complex, located along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, will feature 34 en-suite offices in a two-storey building, along with an elevator, gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall.

Ibas, who was accompanied by George Nwaeke, head of the Rivers state civil service, was briefed on the progress of the project by Omaka Oko, general manager of MCC.

He added that his primary role as administrator was to maintain law and order, ensuring that the state government functions as it should.
