Hajj 2026: FG Cuts Pilgrimage Price for Nigerians

In a decisive move to make the sacred pilgrimage more accessible, President Bola Tinubu has directed a significant reduction in the cost of the 2026 Hajj.

The directive, delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima during an October 6th meeting with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), was motivated by the favorable appreciation of the Naira against the US dollar, a key determinant of pilgrimage expenses.

Heeding the presidential directive, NAHCON Chairman Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman announced the newly revised fare structure, which slashes the cost by approximately N200,000 for all prospective pilgrims compared to what was paid for the 2025 Hajj.

The new financial breakdown establishes a zonal system. Intending pilgrims from the Maiduguri/Yola zone, encompassing Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe states, will now pay N7,579,020.96.

This is a notable decrease from the N8,327,125.59 paid by pilgrims from that region for the 2025 journey.

Those from other Northern states will see their fare reduced to N7,696,769.76, down from N8,457,685.59. For pilgrims from the Southern states, the cost has been set at N7,991,141.76, a relief from the previous year’s fare of N8,784,085.59.

Professor Usman, who disclosed these details in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, also confirmed that the new deadline for payment under this revised fare structure is Friday, December 5th.

This price adjustment, achieved through stakeholder consultations, marks a concrete effort to alleviate the economic pressure on Nigerian Muslims aspiring to perform Hajj in 2026.
