Gunmen Attack Ngige’s Convoy in Anambra
The convoy of former Anambra State Governor, Senator Chris Ngige, was attacked by armed assailants on the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area on Thursday.
Fortunately, the former governor was not present in the convoy at the time of the incident.
According to reports, the assailants, who were dressed in police and army uniforms, opened fire on the convoy. A policeman in the pilot car was shot, and his firearm and uniform were seized.
Tragically, a female bystander who was recording the incident was fatally shot by the gunmen. A shop owner who came out to investigate was also shot and is currently receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack and the recovery of a Mercedes-Benz SUV that was snatched by the criminals during the confrontation. Ikenga stated that a coordinated state-wide manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects.
He detailed that a combined team of police tactical operatives, while in pursuit of the criminals who had earlier attacked a patrol team, encountered the senator’s convoy.
The convoy joined the engagement, leading to a gun duel that forced the assailants to abandon the stolen vehicle and flee. One police operative sustained a minor injury and is in stable condition.
