Gunmen Abduct 5 Farmers in Edo, Demand N50m Ransom
Five farmers from Ivianokpodi community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State were abducted on Saturday while heading to their farmland, marking a fresh wave of insecurity in the region.
The incident occurred just a day after reports emerged that Emmanuel Alabi, a seminarian from the same community, had been killed by suspected kidnappers.
According to local sources, the victims—three men and two women—were seized by armed assailants who have since demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release.
“One of them is my neighbour,” a resident told reporters. “They were kidnapped last Saturday, and as of today, the abductors are asking for N50 million.”
The back-to-back incidents have heightened fears among residents, who say the community is increasingly vulnerable to violent attacks and abductions. Local authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but community members are calling for urgent intervention to secure the release of the victims and restore safety in the area.
