Guinness World Records Validates Hilda Baci’s Monumental Jollof Rice Milestone

Chef Hilda Baci has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an astonishing 8,780 kilograms.

The record-breaking feat was accomplished in collaboration with Gino and took place in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The announcement was made on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice, 8,780 kg achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Already a household name thanks to her viral cook-a-thon, Baci has once again spotlighted Nigerian cuisine on the global stage. During her attempt, Guinness World Records shared a video cheering her on, saying:

“What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

The event drew a massive crowd of fans, celebrities, and food enthusiasts, transforming the venue into a lively celebration. According to Baci, the custom-built pot used for the challenge could hold 22,619 litres, and her goal was to fill it to 80% capacity.

To achieve this, she initially planned to use 5,278 kg of raw basmati rice, roughly 264 bags, but strategically reduced it to 250 bags. On Friday, she revealed that she ultimately cooked 200 bags, due to the 20,000 kg weight limit of the measuring equipment, which included the pot itself.

“We weighed the pot first and had to account for everything added afterward. My target was 5,000 kg of cooked rice, aiming for a total of 17,000 to 18,000 kg. Including the pot, we hit around 20,000,” she explained.

The final dish amounted to 4,000 kg of rice, enough to feed 20,000 people.

The atmosphere was electric, with music, dancing, and appearances from notable figures. Nollywood star Funke Akindele joined Baci on stage, praising her determination and even helped stir the tomato base. Bamidele Abiodun, First Lady of Ogun State, also showed her support.

Other celebrities spotted included Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Peller, Veekee James, Femi Atere, Tacha, Papaya, Samuel Banks, Alex Unusual, Folagbade Banks, and Spyro, among others.
