In a scathing critique, Joe Igbokwe, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has likened the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to a student union leader rather than a dignified state governor.
This assessment comes amid the deepening political turmoil in Rivers State, which has been exacerbated by Fubara’s contentious relationship with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The rift between Fubara and Wike has led to a significant divide within the Rivers State House of Assembly. The Supreme Court intervened by nullifying local government elections conducted by Fubara and directed him to present the 2025 budget to a legislative faction aligned with Wike. However, these efforts did not resolve the crisis.

In a Facebook post, Igbokwe expressed his disappointment with Fubara’s handling of the situation, stating that the governor’s actions and words lacked the gravitas expected of a state leader.
He criticized Fubara for behaving more like a student union president, suggesting that his advisors and followers failed to correct his numerous missteps. Igbokwe’s remarks underscore the widespread perception that Fubara’s leadership style has contributed to the state’s political instability.
He wrote, “In actions and deeds Fubara never spoke as a sitting Governor. He behaved and spoke like a Student Union President. Unfortunately none of his followers and advisors had the courage to address him on his uncountable scurrilous drivels. Too much mistakes.”
