Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to citizens to show greater empathy and support for individuals living with autism.

Speaking on Wednesday in commemoration of the 2025 World Autism Day, themed *‘Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),’* the First Lady emphasized the importance of care and social inclusion for autistic individuals, particularly in education and employment opportunities.

She stated, “On this World Autism Awareness Day 2025, I join millions globally in celebrating the remarkable potential and skills of those living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This year’s theme highlights that supporting individuals with autism is not only a moral obligation but also a critical element of sustainable development.”

Senator Tinubu condemned acts of discrimination against neurodiverse individuals and stressed the need to provide them with opportunities to reach their full potential. She described neurodiversity as a testament to human uniqueness, urging Nigerians to embrace inclusion and advocate for equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and social acceptance.

“As we work towards achieving the SDGs, particularly SDG 4 and SDG 8, which focus on quality education and economic opportunities for all, I encourage everyone to champion neurodiversity and foster a society where every individual can thrive. Happy Autism Awareness Day!” she concluded.
