Enugu Boosts Corps Members Welfare To ₦97,000 Monthly
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved an additional ₦20,000 monthly stipend for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, raising their total monthly allowance to ₦97,000.
This increment complements the federal government’s standard ₦77,000 allowance, positioning Enugu among the top-paying states for corps members.
During a courtesy visit to the Government House in Enugu, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, commended Governor Mbah for the gesture, describing it as a strong demonstration of the state’s commitment to youth development and national integration.
He also praised the ongoing reconstruction of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu, noting its historical significance as Nigeria’s first orientation camp established in 1973.
Nafiu emphasised the importance of cultural respect and integration, urging corps members to embrace the values of their host communities. He revealed that 11,116 Enugu indigenes are currently serving across Nigeria, while 5,636 are deployed within the state.
He also disclosed that 131 corps members had their service year extended due to disciplinary issues.
Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the Awgu camp reconstruction promptly and highlighted the vital role corps members play in education and healthcare across Enugu State.
