England and Chelsea defender Millie Bright has announced her retirement from international football with immediate effect.
Bright, aged 32, earned 88 caps for England from her debut in 2016 until 2025. She was a key player in England’s victory at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 and captained the Lionesses to the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.
She withdrew from the England squad ahead of Euro 2025 citing mental and physical toll and has now decided to focus fully on her club career with Chelsea.
Bright shared her decision on her podcast and expressed pride in her international career while acknowledging it was time to let the next generation come through.
England coach Sarina Wiegman paid tribute to her as an England legend and true leader.
