Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), strongly warns Christians not to trade their soul for material wealth, calling such a choice “foolish” and “stupidity.” He emphasizes that while prosperity is part of God’s promise, chasing money through immoral means like lying, stealing, or cheating at the expense of spiritual well-being is wrong.
He reminds believers that the body will return to dust, but the spirit will stand before God, so nurturing the spirit is paramount. Adeboye describes the life of an overcomer as one requiring sacrifice, self-discipline, and firm rejection of worldly temptations, urging Christians to hold firmly to their faith because life is a spiritual warfare where the Holy Spirit within them is greater than any challenge.
He stresses that true victory in Christ goes beyond material success and must be built on spiritual discipline. “What use is your wealth when you die? You can’t take any of it with you,” he says. Adeboye also highlights the dual nature of humanity: the flesh pulls one down, but the Spirit of God lifts one up, and choosing the Spirit is necessary to live as an overcomer.
This message was delivered during the RCCG’s 73rd Annual Convention themed “The Overcomers” and is being shared widely in various media outlets and social platforms.
