Davido Picks Asake, Rema, Omah Lay as Nigeria’s Next Music ‘GOATs’
Afrobeats superstar Davido has identified Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the leading talents poised to become the next generation’s greatest artists in Nigerian music.
The multiple award-winning singer shared his thoughts during comedian Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream on Wednesday, with clips quickly spreading across social media.
When asked who he considered the next potential “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) in the industry, Davido responded: “Right now, for me, I say, between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me. I think they’ve done exceptionally well.”
He clarified that his list focused on male artists, while acknowledging the success of leading female stars such as Tems and Ayra Starr. “Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like, I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it, you know what I’m saying,” he explained.
Davido spoke warmly about each artist, highlighting their global reach: “Omah Lay, obviously, my brother. Rema, love him so much. Asake, have so much love for him as well. They’re all doing amazingly well.”
He emphasized the significance of their international presence, adding: “Especially like globally. Like it’s just amazing to just be in America and just see them. You know I’m saying. It is not easy o.”
As one of Afrobeats’ most influential figures, Davido has often emphasized the importance of legacy and global impact as Nigerian music continues to break into mainstream markets worldwide.
The “GOAT” debate remains a recurring theme in the genre, especially as Nigerian artists increasingly dominate international charts, festivals, and award platforms, shifting conversations toward who will define the next era of greatness.
