Cubana Chiefpriest recently sparked controversy after revealing he spent over ₦700,000 on medications for malaria and typhoid during a frustrating hospital visit in Lagos. The socialite shared his experience on Instagram, lamenting the poor quality of healthcare in Nigeria.

According to him, despite using a hospital in Ikoyi for years, he was met with unavailability of doctors and long waiting times during his visit, which led him to abandon the planned medical tests.

Instead, he opted to collect the prescribed medications and leave, expressing disappointment at the healthcare system, saying “health care is a joke in this country” and noting that if he were in the UK, he would receive “proper health care”.

The medication cost, estimated at ₦700,000, drew criticism from the public and medical professionals alike.

A Nigerian doctor publicly condemned the combination of drugs prescribed, calling it a “terrible drug combination” for treating malaria and typhoid.

The doctor also suggested that someone of Cubana Chiefpriest’s status should have personal doctors who are more intentional about his health to avoid such substandard treatment and possible adverse effects from drug interactions.

Many social media users weighed in, with some criticizing the hospital and pharmacy for overcharging and irresponsibly dispensing multiple medications without proper medical supervision.

Others sympathized with Chiefpriest, noting that the shortage of qualified doctors and poor healthcare facilities in Nigeria contribute to such frustrating experiences.

Some also pointed out that the socialite was not a pharmacist and should not be blamed for the medications he was given after requesting malaria drugs at a pharmacy known for dubious practices.

Overall, the incident highlights broader concerns about the state of healthcare in Nigeria, particularly the lack of adequate medical professionals and regulatory oversight, even for wealthy individuals like Cubana Chiefpriest.
