Burna Boy states that Nigeria defines freedom for him because he feels a deep sense of liberty and authenticity there that he cannot find in the United States.
He said, “The definition of freedom is in my country. I can never be fully free here [in America].”
He explained this by noting that in America, many Black men end up in jail, implying systemic constraints, while he feels more able to express himself without fear or restrictions back home in Nigeria.
Despite America’s fame and comforts, Burna Boy prefers Nigeria for the freedom it offers him to be himself and create his music authentically without external limitations.
