Boko Haram Kills 4 Four Soldiers, injures 5 In Borno
Four soldiers lost their lives and five others sustained injuries following a Boko Haram attack on a military post in Ngamdu, located along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. The assault occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Friday.
Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Uba Sani, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, stated that the troops successfully repelled the coordinated attack, which involved Rocket Propelled Grenades, armed drones, and command-initiated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) aimed at military personnel and assets.
Despite the intensity of the assault, troops held their position and responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents.
“Unfortunately, we recorded four killed in action (KIA) and five wounded in action (WIA),” Sani said. He added that several Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and Gun Trucks sustained damage during the encounter.
The terrorists also attempted to block reinforcements by planting multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR), prompting a temporary closure of the highway. Military engineers quickly cleared three IED-laden spots, allowing the route to reopen for both military and civilian use.
In response to the attack, troops were resupplied with essential logistics, including MRAP tyres and ammunition, to maintain operational momentum and restore mobility.
Sani noted that credible intelligence confirmed significant terrorist casualties, with reports of mass burials involving approximately 15 bodies transported by pushcarts to Bula Wura near Wasaram.
He assured the public that sustained military operations are underway to restore peace and security in the region.
Meanwhile, motorists experienced heavy gridlock along the highway during post-attack assessments. Muktar Yahaya, a supervisor with Borno Express, reported that several commercial buses were stranded due to military checks and traffic congestion.
“Boko Haram launched an attack in Ngamdu. Many of our buses were held up because of the security operations in the area. As of this morning, vehicles were parked along the roadside, unable to continue their journeys,” Yahaya said.
