Bishop Kukah’s brother narrates ordeal at kidnapper’s den

Ishaya Kukah, brother of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend Matthew Kukah, has narrated how he was rescued from kidnappers den after almost giving up hope.

Kukah was rescued by troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna.

He was among 60 rescued victims that National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru handed over to their families in Abuja on Tuesday.

Kukah said he endured unbearable suffering and torture in the kidnappers den.

“Frankly speaking, I had already given up. I didn’t think I would come out alive because of how they were treating us in the bush.

“We suffered too much. They used to chain us in twos. If you wanted to defecate or urinate, you had to move together,” he said.

Kukah said the abductors tortured victims to force them into agreeing to ransom demands.

He said any victim that resisted was severely beaten or killed.

Kukah thanked the Federal Government for his rescue.

“If not for the federal government, we would still be in the bush. Thank you for what you have done. God bless you,” he stated.
