Bandits Abduct Six Girls, Teenage Boy in FCT

In a brazen night-time attack, armed bandits have abducted six young women and a 16-year-old boy from the Gidan-Bijimi community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident occurred around 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday when the assailants, wielding AK-47 rifles, invaded the community which borders Kaduna State.

According to a local resident, Suleiman Shuaibu, the bandits targeted two houses, sporadically shooting into the air and causing panic before whisking away the seven victims.

Shuaibu reported that local vigilantes attempted to confront the kidnappers but were overpowered by their superior firepower. The abducted girls are between the ages of 17 and 23, with one being the resident’s cousin.

This attack comes just two days after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike directed the bolstering of security around the nation’s capital, particularly at border points with neighboring states. In response, a joint military task force comprising police, DSS, and other security agencies had been deployed across the territory.

The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, had not responded to requests for comment at the time of filing this report. The incident has heightened fears among residents, with many reportedly fleeing their homes as contact is yet to be established with the abductors.
