Bandits Abduct Four Nursing Mothers, Abandon Babies in Kano Village Raid
In a harrowing attack that has left a community in despair, bandits have abducted no fewer than four nursing mothers from Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa community of Kano State’s Shanono Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the Faruruwa community security committee, Yahaya Bagobiri, confirmed the incident, detailing a night of terror that saw the assailants storm the village on motorcycles. He revealed that the bandits initially seized five women, but one managed a narrow escape from captivity.
In a particularly cruel act, the armed men reportedly tore the infants from their mothers’ arms, abandoning the crying babies and taking only the women. Beyond this human tragedy, the bandits also made off with 50 cows and an unspecified number of other animals.
Bagobiri expressed profound frustration, lamenting that the attack occurred despite the presence of security personnel deployed to the area. He described a climate of persistent fear, stating, “We continue to witness these attacks almost on a daily basis, despite the presence of the Military and other security agents.”
According to his account, the community had received warnings of the impending attack and had alerted security forces, but no preventive action was taken. The bandits ultimately struck around 9 pm, raiding houses and seizing the mothers.
The community leader has now issued a desperate plea for help, directly appealing to President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and other top security officials to intervene before the situation deteriorates further.
While acknowledging the government’s earlier gesture of deploying military personnel to the region, Bagobiri stressed that more armed forces are urgently needed to secure the area.
He emphasized that such proactive measures are crucial to curbing the relentless menace and restoring peace to the terrorized community. This latest assault comes just weeks after military troops clashed with bandits in the area, in an encounter that left 19 bandits and two officers dead.
